Nigerian Army Boosts Troop Allowances and Welfare Flights

The Nigerian Army announced an increase in troop allowances and the airlifting of 332 military personnel to visit their families as part of its welfare flight program. This initiative, conducted on June 2, 2026, utilized a US charter, ValueJet, to transport 174 personnel to the operational theater and 158 personnel to reunite with their loved ones.

Since the program's inception, a total of 33,097 personnel have benefited from this initiative. The welfare flight program is designed to enable soldiers deployed in operational areas to visit their families, thereby strengthening family bonds and alleviating the emotional and psychological stress associated with prolonged deployments in conflict zones.

The Nigerian Army described this program as a critical component of its efforts to sustain high morale among frontline troops. Additionally, troop allowances have been increased from 20,000 to 50,000 for personnel ranked as private and warrant officers, reflecting the military leadership's commitment to recognizing and rewarding the sacrifices made by frontline troops.
