Nigerian Soldiers' Salaries Increased to N100,000 Monthly

The Nigerian Defence Minister announced a salary increase for soldiers from N49,000 to N100,000 per month, aimed at enhancing the welfare of military personnel. This announcement was made during an interview on a new central program ahead of a Friday broadcast.

The minister emphasized that the salary review reflects the government's commitment to supporting members of the armed forces. Despite the increase, the minister acknowledged that the military remains underfunded and admitted that the current defense budget is insufficient to meet the country's security needs.

In response to questions about the adequacy of defense allocations, the minister stated that it is not enough. Musa advocated for tougher penalties for kidnapping, including the reintroduction of the death penalty to deter the growing wave of abductions across the country.

He also dismissed recent claims circulating online regarding poor food quality for soldiers, referring to a viral incident involving a military officer and asserting that the allegations misrepresented the situation.
