Nigerian Army Named Africa's Best Counter-Terrorism Force

The Nigerian Army has been awarded the title of Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch, acknowledging its significant achievements in combating terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria. The award was formally presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

Major General Teriworie Gagariga had previously received the award on behalf of the Nigerian Army during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony in Banjul, The Gambia. Lieutenant General Shaibu stated that the recognition honors the courage and professionalism of the army personnel involved in counter-terrorism efforts.

He dedicated the award to fallen officers and their families, emphasizing the army's commitment to enhancing operational success through intelligence-led operations and improved welfare for personnel. African Security Watch highlighted the army's coordinated operations and civil-military cooperation as key factors in its selection for the award, which comes amid the Federal Government's efforts to bolster military capacity.
