Nigerian Army Enhances Engineer Skills Against IED Threats

The Nigerian Army has commenced a training program in Kaduna aimed at enhancing the skills of its engineers to combat the increasing threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during security operations. This seminar, organized by the 41 Engineer Brigade of the 1 Division Nigerian Army, coincided with the graduation of participants from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) X2 Course 126.

Shafaru, Commander of the Corps of Engineers, represented by Maj.-Gen. Josiah Attah, stated that the training is essential for equipping Army engineers with the necessary skills to support military operations throughout Nigeria.

The EOD course was introduced to address the shortage of bomb disposal experts and enhance the Army’s operational capacity. Shafaru emphasized that IEDs pose significant security threats in ongoing counter-insurgency operations, complicating military and humanitarian efforts.

He also noted collaboration with other security agencies and international partners to improve expertise and intelligence sharing.
