Nigerian Oluwafemi Elia Elected to International Law Commission

Oluwafemi Elia was elected to the International Law Commission (ILC) during its 77th session held in Geneva. This election is significant as the ILC, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1947, is responsible for the progressive development and codification of international law.

Nigerian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, congratulated President Bola Tinubu following Elia's election. Ibrahim described Elia's election as an early win and expressed confidence that the diplomat would gain substantial experience in his first 90 days in office.

The Nigerian mission to the United Nations is expected to fully support Elia's efforts in addressing global issues, including state responsibility and diplomatic immunity, as he assumes his role within the commission.
