Ondo Students Give Governor 14-Day Ultimatum Over Strikes

Students from state-owned universities in Ondo State, represented by the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee (NANS-JCC), have issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Aiyedatiwa to resolve an industrial dispute that has halted academic activities. This warning was made during a protest in Akure, concerning the strikes at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) and the University of Sciences (UNIMED), which have persisted for over two months due to actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), NASU, SSANU, and other unions.

NANS-JCC chairman Mayomi Adeboye stated that students are suffering due to a dispute they did not create, citing a case where a student lost a $67,000 scholarship because the university was closed. The students have agreed to give the government two weeks to address the issues, threatening to escalate protests if no resolution is reached.

Adeboye indicated that the NANS national leadership might mobilize support for statewide protests if necessary.
