ASUU Criticizes Ondo Government Over University Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Benin Zone, criticized the Ondo state government for the prolonged strike affecting Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (OAUSTECH), and the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED). The strike, now in its second month, has halted academic activities, with students remaining at home for over 30 days.

ASUU attributed the crisis to the state government's alleged failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and accused it of gross underfunding of the three universities. The union's position was articulated by Prof. Monday Lewis Igbafen, the Zonal Coordinator, during a statement at Delta State University (DELSU) in Abraka.

ASUU noted that while Ondo state struggles, other states like Edo and Delta have begun implementing the agreement. The union described the situation in Ondo as "provocative and unjust" and called for federal intervention to address the grievances.
