Nigerian Government Announces Subsidy for Christian Pilgrims

The Nigerian government has committed to subsidizing travel costs for Christian pilgrims, with Simon Dolli, a representative of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), announcing this initiative during a visit to the Plateau Pilgrim Board. The subsidy aims to alleviate the financial burden on self-sponsored pilgrims, with the government expected to cover nearly half of the travel expenses.

Previously, the cost was approximately N7 million per pilgrim, which will now be reduced to N3.5 million. Dolli emphasized that this intervention is intended to provide relief to pilgrims, particularly those funding their own trips.

He urged the Plateau Pilgrim Board to expand its sponsorship to include individual businessmen and political representatives to lessen reliance on government support. Bishop Jwan Zhumb, the chairman of the board, expressed gratitude for the NCPC's support and assured that the board would strive to serve the pilgrims better.

The meeting included dignitaries such as Rev. Yusuf Bagu and Mr.

Gayi Timothy, representing the Secretary to the State Government.
