Nigerian Graduate Secures £29,000 UK Teacher Training Bursary

Taiwo Sarah Orobiyi, a Nigerian woman known on X as @Mo_Tun_Rayo, has been awarded a £29,000 bursary from the UK Department for Education to study a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary Physics at the University of Brighton. She shared her achievement on social media, posting a photo of her international passport alongside a confirmation letter from the university.

The letter indicated that her Nigerian degree was assessed as equivalent to a UK honours degree classification of 2:2 or above, making her eligible for the full bursary. This funding will cover her course fees and living costs during her studies, which are set to begin on 3 September 2026.

The bursary is part of a UK government initiative aimed at attracting high-quality graduates into teacher training, particularly in shortage subjects like physics, and does not require repayment.
