Nigerian Inmates Celebrate Prisoner Transfer Agreement

Nigerian inmates at Abasamuel Prison in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, celebrated the signing of a bilateral prisoner transfer agreement between Nigeria and Ethiopia. This agreement, facilitated by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, allows eligible Nigerian prisoners to be transferred back to Nigeria to serve the remainder of their sentences.

Ojukwu described the atmosphere among the inmates as one of excitement and renewed hope, highlighting the significance of this development for the welfare of Nigerians abroad. She stated that the welfare of citizens living abroad remains a key priority for the current administration.

The agreement is expected to facilitate the transfer of convicted individuals, enabling them to serve their sentences closer to their families and support networks.
