FG Dismisses Claims of Tinubu's 2027 Election Defeat

On September 4, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria rejected assertions made by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, that President Bola Tinubu would be defeated in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The government emphasized that the All Progressives Congress remains assured of its ability to retain the presidency.

Additionally, the Presidency clarified that the ongoing litigation involving President Bola Tinubu in a United States federal court regarding the Freedom of Information Act is a civil records-disclosure dispute and not a criminal case. Furthermore, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu criticized politicians advocating for the return of fuel subsidies, labeling their approach as populist politics that would ultimately mislead voters.
