NPF Launches Online Portal for Crime Reporting in Nigeria

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has introduced a dedicated online portal that enables Nigerians to report crimes directly, thus removing the necessity of visiting a police station in person. This portal is accessible via the official NPF website and allows individuals who have witnessed or experienced criminal incidents to file reports using any internet-enabled device.

The types of incidents that can be reported include theft, burglary, assault, kidnapping, fraud, domestic violence, and more. After submitting a report, users receive a reference number to track the progress of their case without needing to return to a police station.

However, the NPF has clarified that this online portal is not intended for emergencies; individuals in immediate danger should contact the NPF through dedicated emergency helplines: 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786. Additionally, a separate reporting channel for complaints against police officers has been established, and the NPF warns that knowingly filing a false report is a criminal offense.
