Abba Adamu, Governorship Aspirant, Killed by Kidnappers

Abba Adamu, a governorship aspirant and former president of the Forum Nigerian Polytechn Alumni Association (FONPAA), was reportedly killed by kidnappers on May 6, 2026, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway. His abduction and subsequent death sent shockwaves through Nigeria's polytechnic alumni community.

Despite efforts by family members and the association to raise a ransom of 75 million naira for his release, Adamu was allegedly killed after several days in captivity. His death, confirmed on May 11, 2026, has reignited fears regarding the persistent insecurity along the Kaduna-Abuja corridor, which has been plagued by kidnappings and violent crimes.

Adamu was highly respected for his contributions to the growth of polytechnic education in Nigeria and was known for advocating for better working conditions for academic staff. He served as chairman of the governing council of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu from 2013 to 2015 and held various political positions, including chairman of Guri Local Government Area in Jigawa State from 1997 to 2000.
