Retired General Enenche Advocates ₦250,000 Salary for Soldiers

Major General John Enenche (retired), a former Director of Defence Information, has proposed a minimum monthly salary of ₦250,000 for Nigerian soldiers to better reflect current economic conditions and the demands of military service. Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV, he justified this recommendation by highlighting the rising cost of living and the financial burdens faced by soldiers, including feeding and transportation costs.

Enenche argued that military personnel make significant sacrifices, distinguishing them from other public servants, and emphasized that soldiers are always on duty, even after retirement. He pointed out that soldiers cannot pursue additional income sources due to the nature of their service.

Enenche suggested that any salary adjustments should apply across the military hierarchy, considering available resources and competing demands from other sectors of the economy. He reiterated that the proposed salary is modest and necessary for the welfare of military personnel.
