New Military Pension Structure: Generals to Earn N29.75m

The Federal Government has approved a revised pensionable salary structure for military personnel, communicated through a circular dated September 3, 2026, by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, signed by Major General Junaidu S. Bindawa (retd.).

The new structure, effective from September 1, 2026, stipulates that Generals, Admirals, and Air Chief Marshals will receive the highest annual pensionable pay of N29,745,561. The salary scale includes various ranks, with Lieutenant Generals, Vice Admirals, and Air Marshals earning between N16,995,355 and N25,908,856, and Major Generals, Rear Admirals, and Air Vice Marshals receiving between N14,977,173 and N23,899,084.

The circular clarifies that these amounts do not equate to the monthly take-home pay of serving military personnel. The pension review aligns with Section 173(3) of the 1999 Constitution, mandating pension reviews every five years or alongside public servant salary revisions.
