Nigerian Students Shine at Chinese Language Contest

The 19th Nigeria Division Chinese Bridge competition took place at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, featuring secondary school and university students demonstrating their Mandarin proficiency. Organized by the Confucius Institute, the event highlighted the increasing interest in Chinese language studies among Nigerian youth.

Mr. Yang Jianx, Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, described the competition as a symbol of deepening people-to-people engagement between Nigeria and China, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Joi Okeke, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Education Secretariat, emphasized the event's role in fostering educational cooperation. The competition saw Michael Uchechi and Justina Umezurik emerge as overall winners with scores of 95.2 and 90.6 points, respectively.

Other notable participants included Chikadibia Faith and Emmanuel Faith Mba Orjiugo, who secured top positions in their categories. The event aims to provide Nigerian students with opportunities to deepen intercultural understanding and access scholarships for international language contests.
