Abia State University Lifts Suspension on Professor Nwaeze

The management of Abia State University lifted the suspension of Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, effective immediately. Nwaeze had been suspended due to a Facebook post in August where he claimed that professors at the university earned less than N400,000 monthly.

This post coincided with an industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities at ABSU. The suspension was lifted following a written plea from ASUU-ABSU, as stated in a letter dated September 3, signed by Acting Registrar Joy Nwankwo.

However, the university noted that this decision does not affect the ongoing investigation into allegations of misconduct against Nwaeze. In a Facebook post, Nwaeze thanked supporters and described his recall as a "momentary victory," while expressing concerns about ongoing efforts against him.

He alleged that the lifting of his suspension was politically motivated and intended to delay ASUU-ABSU's potential strike resumption. Nwaeze affirmed his commitment to defend his reputation and expressed worries for his safety.
