Abia State University Lifts Suspension of Prof. Nwaeze

Abia State University, located in Uturu, has provisionally lifted the suspension of Prof. Nnamdi Nwaeze from its Department of Economics. This decision was communicated in a letter dated September 3, 2026, signed by Acting Registrar Dr. Joy Nwankwo.

The university's action followed a written plea from the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ABSU chapter, which highlighted the need for Nwaeze's reinstatement. The letter stated that the suspension was lifted effective immediately, but this action is without prejudice to an ongoing investigative panel examining Nwaeze's earlier criticisms regarding low and unpaid salaries at the university.

His suspension had previously triggered industrial action by the ASUU-ABSU chapter, which made his recall a condition for ending the strike. Although the Abia State Government distanced itself from the suspension, Governor Alex Otti later addressed some of the union's demands.

ASUU-ABSU chairman Prof. Chidi Mba confirmed the lifting of the suspension but stated that the union would handle the matter administratively.
