Nigerian Wrestlers Win Five Gold Medals in Congo

Nigerian wrestlers achieved significant success at the Central African Wrestling Championship held in Brazzaville, Congo, winning five gold medals and one silver. The team, which included athletes Terri Godfrei, who claimed gold in the men's 65kg freestyle category, and Andrew Woyinkorikiy and Precillia Archbon, who dominated the women's events, showcased their skills across various competitions.

Nigeria secured three gold medals in the freestyle wrestling events, with Archbon winning in the 45kg category. The team also excelled in beach wrestling, where Woyinkorikiy and Archbon added to Nigeria's medal tally.

Overall, Nigeria finished as the third-best team in the tournament, trailing behind the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville. Bashir Adewal Adeniyi, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, emphasized the importance of developing grassroots talent and providing athletes with international exposure to enhance their skills.

The Nigerian delegation included three wrestlers and their coach, Kingkuro Oyinbrakemi Tangi, along with assistant secretary Abigail Ibrahim.
