Obi Critiques Tinubu's 'Better Than Kenya' Statement

Peter Obi, the former president of the Labour Party, criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his recent comments suggesting that Nigerians are better off than those in Kenya. Obi urged Tinubu to confront the harsh realities facing Nigeria rather than downplay the country's economic and security challenges.

Tinubu's remarks, made during a speech in Yenagoa, implied that Nigerians should be grateful and that conditions are better than in Kenya. However, Obi countered this by providing data showing that Nigeria lags behind Kenya in several key development indicators, including the Human Development Index (HDI), GDP per capita, literacy rates, and access to electricity.

He noted that Nigeria ranks 164th out of 180 countries on the HDI, while Kenya ranks 143rd. Obi emphasized that Nigeria's poverty rate is significantly higher, with 63% of its population living in poverty compared to Kenya's 43%.

He urged the president to abandon self-congratulatory rhetoric and instead focus on addressing the real issues affecting the nation.
