Nigerians in Canada Praise Tunji-Ojo for Fast Passport Services

Nigerians living in Canada commended Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for a successful passport intervention program conducted from August 12 to September 4, 2026. This initiative, part of the Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NiDEC) in Toronto, captured 2,233 applicants across five provinces: Toronto, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatoon, and Calgary.

The program was a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Interior, NiDCOM, the Nigerian High Commission, NIS, and various Nigerian Canadian associations. Beneficiaries reported receiving their passports within four to seven days after biometric capture, a significant improvement over typical processing times.

Community leaders expressed that the program strengthened ties between the Nigerian government and its diaspora, and they urged the Federal Government to consider a second phase to accommodate those who missed the initial opportunity.
