Oluwo Suggests Constitutional Amendment for Tinubu's Term

Oluwo Iwo, Abdulroshe Akanbi, indicated that there may be a demand among Nigerians for a constitutional amendment to permit President Bola Tinubu to serve beyond the current two-term limit established by Nigeria's 1999 constitution. This statement was made in a congratulatory message issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, on the occasion of Tinubu's 74th birthday.

Oluwo described Tinubu's leadership as distinguished and highlighted his firm campaign against illegal activities that hinder economic growth. He noted significant improvements in Nigeria's economy, including an increase in foreign reserves from $49.5 billion to $50.45 billion between late February and March 2026.

Oluwo commended Tinubu for granting local government autonomy and increasing allocations to states, as well as expanding road infrastructure. He emphasized that Tinubu's administration has begun to impact the standard of living, although challenges remain.

The current constitutional provision limits the presidency to two four-year terms, necessitating an amendment for any extension of tenure.
