Monarch Predicts Tinubu May Extend Presidency Beyond 2027

Oba Abdulroshe Akanbi, the traditional ruler of Iwo in Osun State, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu may remain in office beyond the current two-term limit, calling for a constitutional amendment. This prediction was made in a congratulatory message issued to mark President Tinubu's 74th birthday.

The monarch praised Tinubu's leadership, stating that he has renewed hope for the country and demonstrated firm leadership aimed at addressing Nigeria's economic challenges. He highlighted improvements in the economy, including a rise in Nigeria's foreign reserves from $49.5 billion to $50.45 billion by late February and March 2026.

Additionally, Akanbi commended Tinubu for granting autonomy to local governments and increasing allocations to states, which he believes strengthens governance at the grassroots level. He also noted ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the Sokoto-Badagry road, emphasizing that Tinubu's leadership is crucial for overcoming past obstacles to economic prosperity.
