Nigeria's Car Imports Hit N1.58 Trillion in 2025

In 2025, Nigeria's passenger car imports reached N1.58 trillion, marking a 24.64% increase from N1.26 trillion in 2024. This growth reflects a rebound in demand, despite passenger vehicles accounting for only 2.34% of Nigeria's total import bill, which stood at N67.35 trillion.

The total import grew by 11.14% year-on-year from N60.59 trillion in 2024. The U.S. dominated the vehicle import market, with imports valued at N93.51 billion in Q1 2025, significantly ahead of South Africa at N25.84 billion.

By Q2 2025, U.S. imports increased to N99.18 billion, and by Q3, they surged to N184.21 billion. In Q4, U.S. imports rose further to N197.90 billion, marking the highest quarterly figure for the year.

Other notable sources included the United Arab Emirates, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The overall import of transport equipment rose significantly, indicating a strong demand for logistics and infrastructure-related assets in Nigeria.
