NCC Launches Free Daily Data for Educational Access

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has initiated a program that offers eligible users up to 100 megabytes of free daily data to access approved educational websites and digital learning platforms. This initiative, named Zero-Rated Data Access to Educational Platforms and Content, was launched on Thursday to reduce the cost barrier to online education in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Nnenna Ukoh, Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, the program aims to expand affordable access to digital education. Users will receive the daily data allowance when accessing approved platforms, amounting to approximately 700MB weekly, 3GB monthly, and 36.5GB annually.

Executive Vice-Chairman Aminu Maida linked the initiative to President Bola Tinubu’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy, emphasizing the importance of human capital in achieving this target. The NCC believes that even a small daily allowance can significantly impact millions of learners, addressing disparities in access to educational resources across regions.
