ADC Criticizes Tinubu's Late CNG Transport Initiative

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of politicizing the hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly regarding the rising cost of transportation. In a statement issued on August 28 by the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party criticized the government's recent initiative to expand Compressed Natural Gas (CNG-powered) transportation as a political gimmick that comes too late, just ahead of elections.

The ADC pointed out that the government had waited three years to address transportation costs, questioning why CNG buses were not deployed earlier when petrol subsidy removal led to increased transport fares. Abdullahi emphasized that the sudden focus on cheaper transportation coincided with ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar's proposal for a targeted production subsidy, suggesting that the government's actions were reactive rather than proactive.

The ADC maintained that Nigerians could discern between genuine efforts to alleviate their suffering and politically motivated measures introduced as elections approach.
