ADC Questions Tinubu on N17.5tn Energy Security Spending

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over the N17.5 trillion spent on energy security by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC). In a statement issued by Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC emphasized the need for public accountability regarding the allocation of public funds, especially during a time of economic hardship for citizens.

The ADC's scrutiny follows the release of NNPC's financial audit for the 2024 fiscal year, which revealed that N7.13 trillion was categorized under energy security. The party highlighted that the total expenditure linked to energy security obligations amounted to N17.5 trillion.

The ADC noted that while protecting oil and gas assets is crucial for national economic stability, expenditures under the guise of security should not evade public oversight. They called for a detailed disclosure of the pipeline surveillance contracts awarded to private security firms, particularly Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, linked to former Niger Delta militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo.

The ADC insists that Nigerians deserve to know the beneficiaries of these contracts and the amounts paid during the agreement period.
