Nigeria Opens Submissions for 2027 Oscar Contender

Nigeria has commenced the submission process for films aiming to represent the country at the 99th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, scheduled for 2027. The submission window has opened, allowing Nigerian filmmakers and eligible rights holders to present their productions for consideration.

This process is being coordinated by Nollywood, which is tasked with assessing eligible films and selecting Nigeria's official entry for the International Feature Film category. Despite previous submissions, Nigeria has not yet received a nomination in this category.

The current selection process represents another opportunity for Nollywood to achieve international recognition and showcase Nigerian storytelling, which encompasses the country's history, culture, and social realities. An Oscar submission can enhance visibility for Nigerian filmmakers, attract new audiences, and potentially lead to wider distribution and investment opportunities.
