Shettima Praises Nigeria's Digital Identity Transformation

On Wednesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima described Nigeria's digital identity transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as unrivaled. During a courtesy visit from a delegation of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) led by Director-General Abisoye Odusote at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima commended the NIMC for evolving from a database custodian to the country's foundational digital authority.

He emphasized the significance of the NIMC Act 2026, which facilitates the establishment of a sovereign Digital Public Infrastructure, transitioning government operations from paper-based systems to secure digital governance. Shettima praised Odusote's leadership and urged the NIMC management to support the transformative direction.

Odusote acknowledged President Tinubu for signing the NIMC Act, highlighting its role in enabling efficient government-citizen interactions and the integration of the National Identification Number in various sectors, including the Nigerian Immigration Service for passport issuance.
