Nigeria Launches DEMI to Transform Education Data Management

The Federal Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, unveiled the Digital Nation Education Management Information System (DEMI) as a flagship component of Nigeria's education data initiative.

This system aims to address persistent issues in the education sector, such as unreliable data and misaligned interventions, which have led to millions of children being underserved. DEMI will establish a centralized, real-time digital infrastructure for managing education data, consolidating streams from basic education to tertiary institutions.

The system is designed to enhance evidence-based decision-making across Nigeria's education system, allowing for better resource distribution and accountability. It will replace fragmented data management practices with a unified platform, ensuring that school enrollment figures, teacher deployment data, and learning outcomes are accessible in real time.

The initiative requires significant investment and collaboration with international organizations like UNICEF and the World Bank to build a robust data governance framework at the state level.
