Chinyere Okunna Wins AMTY Lifetime Achievement Award

Chinyere Okunna, recognized as Nigeria's first female professor of Mass Communication and the first in Sub-Saharan Africa, has been awarded the AMTY Lifetime Achievement Award. This accolade acknowledges her extensive contributions to journalism, academia, and public service over several decades.

Currently, Okunna serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) at Paul University, Awka. She has held various leadership positions at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), including Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, and Director of UNIZIK 94.1 FM.

Beyond her academic roles, she has served in administrative capacities under former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, including positions in the Commission for Information and Culture and as Chief of Staff to the Commission for Economic Planning and Budget. Okunna's work has significantly impacted media ethics and development in Nigeria, earning her recognition across academic and professional circles.
