Sam Onuigbo to Lead Global Climate Alliance in 2026

Hon. Sam Onuigbo, currently serving as the Vice President of Africa within the Global International Power Cross Party Alliance, is poised to make history by becoming the first African president of the organization, which has been in existence since 1991.

This significant leadership transition is scheduled for June 24, 2026, during the London Climate Action Week, a major international climate gathering running from June 20 to 28. The event will also host the inaugural Nigeria Climate Investment Summit at Mansion House in London, featuring prominent figures such as former U.S.

Vice President Al Gore and former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Onuigbo's emergence is seen as a pivotal moment in global climate diplomacy, emphasizing the need for greater representation from the Global South. He has been instrumental in Nigeria's climate governance, sponsoring the Climate Change Act of 2021, which established a national framework for carbon reduction and climate planning.
