Team Nigeria Athletes Compete at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Team Nigeria's athletics contingent will participate in several track and field events on Tuesday at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The statement from Maxwell Kumoye, Chairman of the Media Committee of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), indicates that this day will be one of the busiest for Team Nigeria.

Athletes will compete in the men's and women's 400 metres, women's high jump and hammer throw, as well as the semi-finals and potential finals of the men's and women's 100 metres. Notable competitors include Patience Okon George, a former African champion, and Esther Elo Joseph in the women's 400 metres, with season-best times of 51.41 seconds and 50.97 seconds, respectively.

Edidiong Udo will represent Nigeria in the men's 400 metres with a season-best of 44.91 seconds. In the women's 100 metres semi-finals, Nigeria will have three athletes: Rosemary Chukwuma, Blessing Ogundiran, and Miracle Oluebube Ezechukwu, each competing in separate races against strong international fields.
