NIMASA Enhances Maritime Security with Drones and Vehicles

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has introduced advanced surveillance technology as part of its Deep Blue Project to enhance maritime security operations and combat illegal activities within Nigeria's territorial waters. This initiative includes unmanned aerial vehicles, armoured vehicles, and other tactical equipment, which were presented by Tal Spektor, Chief Executive Officer of HLS International, during the Africa International Defence Exhibition in Lagos.
The project operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence. Spektor stated that the Command and Control Centre allows authorities to monitor vessels entering Nigeria's Exclusive Economic Zone, providing critical information on vessel ownership and identifying suspicious activities.
The upgrades to the project’s intelligence systems have improved monitoring of cargo movements. The displayed equipment included a light utility vehicle, a vertical take-off and landing drone, and tactical gear for special operations.
Spektor emphasized the need for continuous technological upgrades to address evolving maritime threats.
