NFF Board Members Consider Resignation Amid Criticism

Nine members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which includes President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, are reportedly contemplating resigning en-masse amid growing criticism regarding the federation's management of football in Nigeria. This decision comes ahead of the scheduled elections on September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The NFF board, consisting of 13 members, has faced backlash following the Super Falcons' failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Super Eagles' inability to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The NFF has also been scrutinized by Nigeria's anti-graft agencies, the EFCC and ICPC, regarding the expenditure of N17 billion allocated for upcoming tournaments.

Former Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel has publicly supported the board's resignation, emphasizing the need for new leadership to revitalize Nigerian football.
