Ibrahim Gusau Resigns as NFF President for Reforms

Ibrahim Musa Gusau publicly confirmed his resignation as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the NFF headquarters in Abuja. He stated that his decision was made after consultations with family, friends, and football stakeholders, intending to pave the way for comprehensive reforms in Nigerian football.

Despite a critical assessment of his administration, which received a failing grade, his resignation is recognized as an honorable decision. Gusau's tenure included achievements such as renewed coaching education, improved stability in the domestic league calendar, advancements in refereeing, and infrastructure projects, including a 68-room players' hostel and new training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

The Super Eagles secured silver and bronze finishes in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and the Super Falcons are set to compete for the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. Gusau's choice to resign rather than face impeachment or prolonged conflict is noted as a significant departure from the norm in Nigerian leadership.
