Police Rescue Nine in Katsina Kidnap Attempt

On Thursday at 2:30 PM, a kidnapping attempt occurred near Tashar Kanya village in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina. Suspected bandits blocked the road and intercepted a commercial Volkswagen Golf III saloon car carrying passengers, including Aliyu Maitakabari, the driver.

Upon receiving a distress report, the Division Police Officer (DPO) of Kankara mobilized a team, including personnel from the Violent Crime Rescue Unit (VCRU), to the scene. The police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee into the bush.

The operation successfully rescued nine victims who were unharmed. The rescued individuals were identified as Abubakar Ibrahim (28), Rakkiya Ya U (30), Shamsiya Ahmad Mahamud (18), Jumai Maharazu (20), Salamatu Adamu (30), Yusuf Halliru (17), Harira Hamisu (25), Umma Kabir (17), and three-year-old Nusaiba Maharazu.

However, two individuals, Buhari Kabir and Aliyu Maitakabari, remain missing. Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers for their courage and reiterated the command's commitment to combatting banditry and kidnapping activities across the state.
