Police Rescue Nine Victims from Kidnapping in Katsina

On Thursday at 2:30 PM, the Katsina State Police Command foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Katsina-Kankara road, rescuing nine victims. The incident occurred when armed bandits blocked the road near Tashar Kanya village in Kankara Local Government Area, intercepting a red Volkswagen Golf III saloon car driven by a 40-year-old man named Aliyu, known as Maitakabari, who was transporting 11 passengers from Dandume to Katsina.

Upon receiving information about the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kankara mobilized a police team, including the Violent Crime Rescue Unit (VCRU), to the scene. The police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, leveraging superior firepower, which forced the assailants to flee.

The operation resulted in the rescue of nine victims, who were unharmed. However, two individuals, Buhari Kabir and driver Aliyu, were reported missing, and search operations are ongoing to locate them.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the swift response of the police.
