NIS and China Strengthen Cooperation on Border Security

On September 9, 2023, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), led by Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap, held a bilateral meeting with officials from China's National Immigration Administration in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. This meeting was part of the Sub-Forum on Migration Management Cooperation, which took place from September 8 to 11, 2023, and included over 2,000 participants from 139 countries.

The discussions aimed to strengthen technical cooperation, intelligence sharing, and capacity building to combat irregular migration, document fraud, and transnational organized crime. NIS's Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, Akinsola Akinlabi, stated that the meeting focused on mutual interests and opportunities for collaboration.

Proposed areas of cooperation included technical exchanges and information sharing. The forum also addressed smart digital services, document verification, and intelligence sharing for secure borders.

NIS's participation underscored its commitment to international partnerships and effective migration management.
