NITT Transforms into Nigeria's Transport Technology Hub

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), located in Zaria, has transformed from its origins in 1956 as a railway training institute into a comprehensive national transport technology nerve center. Initially established to build technical manpower for the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), it expanded its scope in 1980 to include maritime, air, and pipeline transport.

The formal establishment of NITT occurred under the NITT Act of 1984, with further upgrades in 1992 during General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida's administration. Under the leadership of Dr.

Bayero Salih Farah since 1991, NITT has undergone unprecedented expansion, focusing on modernizing transport technology and logistics management. Key achievements include the establishment of outreach centers across Nigeria, the creation of a smart transport data bank, and the accreditation of CNG technician centers.

NITT has also partnered with various organizations to enhance training and research, ensuring alignment with global innovations and addressing Nigeria's socio-economic realities.
