NIWA Prioritizes Staff Safety and Mental Health Initiatives

Umar Gerei, the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), highlighted the importance of staff safety as a key priority during a recent presentation in Lokoja, Kogi State. In his address, titled "Good Psycho-Social Work Environment: A Pathway to Thriving Workers," Gerei emphasized the agency's commitment to improving the work environment for its employees.

Suleiman Makama, the Acting General Manager of Corporate Affairs at NIWA, indicated that the agency plans to provide new office facilities, rehabilitate old headquarters, and ensure access to potable water and proper sanitation. NIWA will collaborate with organizations, including the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja, to conduct regular mental health sessions for staff and implement flexible work arrangements.

Additionally, training in emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and workplace stress management will be provided. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from the Nigerian Navy and the Kogi State Ministry of Transport.
