NLC's Joe Ajaero Demands New Minimum Wage for Workers

Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), urged workers to prepare for a new struggle for a national minimum wage during the opening ceremony of the 7th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference (NDC) of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) in Kano. Ajaero stated that the current wage structure has become a "starvation wage" due to the economic realities, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira.

He emphasized that the labour movement would no longer accept mere adjustments that do not genuinely address workers' welfare. Ajaero insisted that any wage adjustment must reflect the true cost of living and uphold the dignity of labor, positioning AUPCTRE at the forefront of this essential struggle.

The conference is set to elect a new President and other national executive officers.
