NMDPRA Enforces Stricter Fuel Dispensing Regulations

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has announced stricter regulations for petroleum marketers, particularly targeting those caught under-dispensing fuel. The Authority has issued a directive mandating retail outlets to calibrate and verify their dispensing equipment to ensure consumers receive the correct quantity of petroleum products.

NMDPRA has intensified nationwide inspections to identify violations, warning that operators found under-dispensing or using improperly calibrated equipment will face immediate corrective action. Persistent violations could lead to license revocation.

The Authority emphasized that accurate dispensing is crucial for consumer confidence and integrity in transactions. Additionally, NMDPRA has instructed major petroleum industry associations, including MEMAN, DAPPMAN, IPMAN, and PETROAN, to inform their members about the new enforcement directive and ensure compliance.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance competition and prevent market abuse in the petroleum sector, coinciding with the introduction of the draft Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Prevention of Anti-Competitive Practices and Behaviour Regulations, 2026.
