Madugu Critiques NFF After Super Falcons' World Cup Exit

Justine Madugu, the head coach of the Super Falcons, has sparked controversy with comments following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. His remarks suggested a lack of effort from the Nigeria Football Federation and others involved in the national team's administration.

Madugu stated, “You expect that you will come out victorious, but you do nothing while others are working. It doesn’t work that way, it is not magic.” This statement came after Nigeria's disappointing campaign, where they were eliminated by Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, ending their hopes of automatic qualification.

Subsequently, Nigeria lost 2-1 to South Africa in Casablanca, marking the first time the Super Falcons will miss the Women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991. The defeat intensified criticism of the coaching staff and the administration of women’s football in Nigeria.

Madugu defended his team selections prior to the South Africa match, emphasizing the need for collective effort to achieve success.
