NNPC and TotalEnergies Partner to Reduce Methane Emissions

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and TotalEnergies have extended their partnership to combat methane emissions through the deployment of advanced drone technology. The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the NNPC Tower in Abuja, with NNPC's Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andi Odeh and TotalEnergies' Country Manager Matthieu Bouyer present.

This renewed collaboration follows an initial agreement signed in 2023 to adopt the Ausea technology, a drone-based emission monitoring system designed to detect and measure methane emissions in oil and gas operations. The initiative is expected to strengthen NNPC Ltd's commitment to reducing gas flaring and achieving its environmental obligations under the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter.

Udi Ntia, NNPC's Executive Vice President of Upstream, described the agreement as a significant milestone in NNPC Ltd's sustainability journey. The partnership aims for near-zero methane emissions by 2030 and emphasizes the need for institutional progress and compliance with environmental standards.
