NNPP Labels Governor Abba Yusuf's Defection to APC as 'Cold Betrayal'

The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has strongly criticized Governor Abba Yusuf's defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a "cold betrayal," following his resignation from the party. NNPP's National Public Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, described Yusuf's departure as undermining the trust and support the party had placed in him.

The party refuted Yusuf's claims of internal party problems as the reason for his exit, insisting that NNPP remains vibrant and united. Governor Yusuf formally resigned from NNPP on January 23, 2026, before joining the ruling APC.

In response, NNPP's spokesperson, Sanusi Batur Dawakin Tofa, addressed a letter to the NNPP ward chairperson in Gwale Local Government Area, emphasizing that Yusuf's reasons for leaving were baseless. The party characterized Yusuf's resignation as a political miscalculation rather than a response to genuine grievances within NNPP.
