NNPP Shelves Presidential Ticket, Pursues Alliances for 2027

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by National Chairman Bala Yusuf, has opted to forgo fielding a presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections, instead focusing on forming alliances with other political parties. This decision was disclosed during the party's 11th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, where outcomes from recent primaries were ratified.

National Secretary Dipo Olayoku expressed concerns over the mass defections that have depleted the party's ranks, including the exit of former national leader Rabiu Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf. Yusuf stated that the NNPP is open to assessing credible candidates and will not rush to submit any candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) without careful consideration.

He dismissed speculation about a secret pact with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and emphasized that the party is not compelled to field a presidential candidate. Olayoku acknowledged the challenges faced by the party and urged members to remain hopeful and work towards rebuilding.
