ADC Defends Malami and El-Rufai Amid Legal Challenges

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement defending former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, emphasizing that no citizen is above the law and that justice must be applied fairly. The statement, released on Tuesday, highlighted the ongoing legal cases involving Malami, who has been ordered by a Federal High Court in Abuja to face prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged financial misconduct.

El-Rufai voluntarily honored an invitation from the EFCC and was in custody from February 16 until February 18, when he was transferred to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission for further investigation. The ADC stressed the need for transparency and fairness in handling high-profile cases, urging that justice should not be selective.

They reaffirmed the constitutional principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty, asserting that both Malami and El-Rufai are entitled to legal rights and should not be subjected to intimidation.
