Edo Governor Declares Zero Tolerance for Drug Trafficking

During an event on June 26, 2023, commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Edo State Governor Senator Mondai Okpebholo announced a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking in the state. He emphasized the importance of innovative and collaborative approaches to address the growing challenges of drug abuse.

Andrew Ef, Senior Special Assistant on Drug Policy and Trafficking Control, supported the governor's stance, stating that the state would not provide a safe haven for drug traffickers. Mitchel Ofoyeju, from the NDLEA, reported that 289 suspects had been arrested in Edo State, including 176 males and 113 females, with significant drug seizures.

Edesili Anani Okpebholo, chairperson of the Edo State Drug Control Committee, highlighted the urgent need for community involvement in drug prevention efforts, particularly targeting youth. The event also featured educational programs and a quiz competition aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse.
