Buba, a commissioner in Borno, addressed journalists in Maiduguri regarding a viral video where he made controversial remarks about political loyalty. He stated, “We are now playing politics.

Whoever shows us a finger, we will show him a finger… Whoever dares to show us a finger again, we will break his finger.” Buba insisted that these comments were misinterpreted, asserting they were directed at discontented members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the Northeast region, specifically during a meeting of the City Boy Movement (CBM). He explained that the gathering aimed to empower loyal party members and address anti-party activities following the APC primaries.

Buba emphasized that his figurative vow to “break fingers” was about limiting benefits to loyalists and warned of increased attacks from opposition parties, although he claimed there is currently no opposition in Borno, citing the APC's successful projects in the region.
